Monterey Peninsula College – Business and Computer Sciences Modernization

The extensive renovation of the Business and Computer Science (BC) building on the Main MPC campus was viewed by the District as an opportunity to integrate the Information Technology (IT) Department with the Business and Math Departments. The program called for a diverse mix of classroom settings for the multi-disciplinary curriculum, including: 2 Learning Centers; 8 computer-intensive classrooms; faculty offices; and, conference space. HGHB designed the Business Skills Learning Center and Math Learning Centers to complement the other smart-classrooms for the department. The major components of the mechanical system was reused. Modifications to the basic structure involved seismic upgrades to the roof diaphragm and the perimeter wall connection.

The District viewed this project as another example of the significant construction cost savings realized through thoughtful modernization.
